Welcome
You Are Not Alone
You are probably here because someone gave you a card about PFLAG.
You may be struggling.
You may be upset.
You may have questions.
We have been where you are and we are here to help.
PFLAG is the nation’s first and largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.
PFLAG was started in 1973 by a mom who loved and supported her gay son. PFLAG has been Leading With Love for over 50 years and there are now hundreds of chapters throughout the country.
Where to Start?
- Find a PFLAG meeting near you. Go to pflagillinois.org/chapters to find a chapter in the Chicago area. If you don’t live in the Chicago area, you can go to pflag.org/findachapter to find a chapter in other parts of the country.
- Call the PFLAG Northern Illinois’ Helpline. 630-415-0622 We aren’t counseling professionals but PFLAG parents understand what it is like to walk this road and are here to listen and answer questions.
- Get answers to your questions on PFLAG National’s Resources page, pflag.org/find-resources.
- What do all those terms mean?
- How do I support my LGTBQ+ loved one?
- Need support as an LGTBQ+ person.
- How can I be a better ally?
Above All, Remember
The person who gave you that card cares about you and wants you to get support. So even if things are confusing and hard to comprehend right now, keep the lines of communication open. Tell them, "I care about you/I love you. I don't understand everything yet but I'm trying. Thank you for trusting me."
